Remembering David Stewart

Dear Membership,

I know that many of you may have already heard, the Fair Shake Network has lost a valued long standing member, David Stewart.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jan’s and David’s family.

We will keep you informed of plans for his memorial service here in Charleston.


Below is his obituary from the Register-Herald.


David Glen Stewart

CHARLESTON — David Glen Stewart, age 64, of Charleston, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 29, 1951 in Prosperity, W.Va., son of the late Elery Glen and Lena Hurt Stewart. He was also preceded by his sister, Glenna Carter.

He was a consultant with Mid Atlantic ADA Center , Rockville, Md., member of the Fair Shake Network, Chairman of the Olmstead Counsel and former board member of the Beckley Center for Independent Living, and various other disability organizations.

David is survived by his wife, Jan; son Mark, his wife, Lisa, of Ellerbe, N.C.; grandchildren, Khrista Stewart Wright of Hamlet, N.C. and Mavrick David Stewart of Elerbe, N.C.; and great grandson, Walker Lane Wright.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

The family will have a memorial service at a later date to celebrate David’s life.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to BB&T Kanawha City Charleston, WV 25304 to assist the family.
